India’s Response to COVID-19 Outbreak

India reported its 1st COVID-19 case on Jan 30 2020 and 1st death on March 13 2020. As of today (April 26 2020) India has reported nearly 26,496 total cases of COVID-19 and total fatality of 824 individuals. Analysis of the recommendations issued by the Government of India during Jan 25, 2020-April 17, 2020 showed a total of 38 recommendations. These included:

  • Advisories (50%)

    • The first advisory was issued 24 days after the 1st case of COVID-19 was reported in China on Dec 31 2019.
    • 84% of the advisories were related to travel while remaining 16% were employer related.
  • Guidelines (39%)

  • Policies (11%)

Key Recommendation:

It would be important to monitor the impact of these policy actions on the spread of COVID-19.

  • International travel Ban on March18 2020 (COVID-19 cases reported 137)

  • Nationwide lockdown since March25 2020 (COVID-19 cases reported 562)
