BSc. Nursing

I am Sujata Manna, currently pursuing MPH with specialization on Health policy from Prasanna School of Public Health, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. I have completed my under graduation in BSc. Nursing in August 2016 securing 68% marks. I have worked as sister tutor in Haldia Institute of Nursing (under ICARE) for 1 year 8 months. After working there I have joined in the post of Nurse in a research project named ‘Strengthening/Promoting evidence-based advocacy for influenza prevention and control in India’ at National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Disease (NICED), ICMR run by Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S.A. in March 2019 to July 2019.

I had been assigned for data and sample collection in the field and in due course I felt that there is more to learn in the discipline of public health. Now I am in 2nd semester of the course and successfully completed Foundation of Global health 1 and 2 which was in collaborated with the Maastricht University, Netherlands where I have completed policy analysis and project proposal writing. I believe this internship period will be of notable influence for my career in future.

Goals

The purpose to establish a successful career in public health system has been in my yearning since the day I was introduced to the concept of healthcare delivery system. After completing the internship period of my under graduation in nursing in both community and in hospital setup, I understood the impact of properly functional healthcare delivery system on the lives of both patients and general population. Henceforth I was motivated to further explore the outreach of healthcare in different strata of community.
As public health is a multi-dimensional discipline, to be a successful public health professional one needs to be a person who is constantly learning. Public health is not only limited to the improvement of physical health but also it address social, political, environmental factors. As a student of public health my career objective for one year is to understand the all factors which are responsible for health inequity and learn how those can be addressed. After completing MPH I want to join an international organization as an intern so I can get an opportunity to know the diversity of health issues and the various ideas and principles implemented to solve them. Then I want to join an organization where I can utilise my skill and knowledge to make a difference both in the organisation and for the beneficiary.
In next three years I want to achieve financial independence as it will help me to control my own time and stay focused to reach the goals that I have decided without worrying about financial implications. With the knowledge of diversity of health issues and experience in the field I want to pursue Dr.PH after three to four years. I want to put my efforts in the right place at the right time so that I can make an impact in public health.

My name is Sujata Manna from West Bengal, had done my under graduation in BSc. Nursing. I am currently pursuing Master in Public Health with specialization Health policy from Prasanna School of Public Health, Manipal Academy of Higher education at Karnataka. Public health is a dynamic discipline, ranging from epidemiological investigation of a disease, making health policy to addressing global health issues.

To utilize my time I have joined one month online internship program at Foundation of Health Technology Society. During this internship period I have acquired skills of presentation virtually, understood about the importance of health information in public health system. I was assigned with countries one developed and one least developed country to present public health system and their health sector reforms.

I learned about trend analysis of disease and policy analysis regards with disease occurrence of Covid 19. Eventually I developed critical thinking process which is necessary in policy analysis. So it was a good learning experience and I hope it will help me in future.
