I’m a 4th year BE Biotechnology student looking forward to pursue my Masters in Health Informatics. During my 4-year course I have explored various fields through internships, workshops, seminars and reading. I came across Health Informatics which intrigued me.

Through extensive reading, I realised that digital health solutions hold great potential in addressing some of these challenges. I look forward to any opportunity that will help me build my knowledge in this field. Therefore, with a background of Biotech Engineering, I would like to pursue my master’s degree in Health Informatics.

Goals

I have always had an interest in studying various fields like biology, healthcare, mathematics, and computer applications. This interest led me to pursue my Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Bangalore, India. This four-year graduate program was an amalgamation of both theoretical and practical based learning. The exposure and knowledge I gained in the past four years of my undergraduate program has allowed me to explore various domains and has led me to narrow down my interests and set specific goals for my future. Among the various domains I have explored and come across, Health Informatics has intrigued me. Therefore, I wish to pursue a career in this domain.
Health is very important, the healthier a person is, the more efficient is his work. By improving the overall health of the country, the overall work efficiency of the country can be improved. I aim to work towards making this possible. To achieve my goal, I want to start by utilizing my time in exploring, researching, and understanding the concepts of public health informatics, health data, and related fields and gain a solid foundation of understanding in this domain.
After having a strong understanding of health informatics and public health my career plan for the following years is to contribute to the development of the healthcare system in my home country and overcome the challenge of delivering healthcare to everyone. Remote areas in India do not have a well-equipped healthcare system, like the Himalayan region. Even the rural areas in the country do not have easy access to high-quality healthcare and medication. To overcome these problems, I aim to indulge in research and constantly analyse and mine data to improve public health. My goal is to improve awareness among the Indian population about important issues regarding health and the need for its regular monitoring. This requires that healthcare is more accessible and affordable which can be achieved by advancing and improving eHealth and telemedicine.
To work more efficiently it is important to measure the impact of my work. I plan on doing this by building a proper approach to achieve my goals and prioritize my work and focus on building my knowledge and skills. I am willing to take useful inputs from my mentors, family, and friends to improve myself and work more efficiently to attain useful outputs. The social impact my work has is important, contributing to the development of a greater part of the society is my ultimate goal.

  • To ensure that my words are clear and I usually talk very fast so I tried to slow down and talk about my experience more naturally.

  • Research, graphical analysis and comparison, concise writing.

  • Confidence, communication, presentation, choosing the most important data to present, managing the time constraints, also received great knowledge on the public health systems of the other countries too. And got an idea of how public health works in different countries.

  • 1. Research
    2. Referencing
    3. Make data concise
    4. Improve my presentation by including more animations
    5. Intensive search

  • I have learnt how to transpose data, also kept track of COVID cases of few countries as I collected data, learnt a lot about public Health Systems of different countries.

INSPIRE Virtual Experiential Learning Program - EVALUATION MATRIX

Wanted to get an understanding of the type of work involved in Health Informatics field.

The presentation on Public Health System and collecting the policy and advisory data helped me as it is somehow related to Health informatics data collection.

I would recommend INSPIRE program to others.

Testimonial

My internship with FHTS has been a delightful learning experience. I have gained insight into the public health sector, which I believe will be very useful further in my career. It has enabled to develop my interpersonal skills like communication, teamwork and problem-solving. I have also worked on the SMAART RAPID Tracker and understand the functioning of the public health system of different countries through presentations. Overall, I have had a unique and fruitful experience through this virtual public health internship.
